The Future of Periodontology

Posted on 9/19/2022 by Evan
The Future of PeriodontologyThe ultimate goal of any medical field is to improve patients' lives and advance science so that everyone can benefit. Professionals who work in periodontology help more people than most. By consistently contributing to improving dental care and training and treating future members of their specialty, they're doing their part to change the world for the better. Here are some upcoming future expectations of periodontology as a dynamic branch of dentistry:

Increase in Awareness and Education

There is an increase in awareness regarding gum disease and its consequences. More people are aware of the importance of oral hygiene and regular visits to the dentist. The result is that now more people are seeking treatment from their dentists than ever before. This trend will continue and probably increase further as more people learn about gum disease and its consequences. Similarly, more patients will become aware of their risk factors for developing gum disease and will be motivated to take proactive steps to prevent it from happening to them or someone they love.

Increased Use of Lasers in Periodontitis Treatments

The use of lasers in the treatment of periodontal disease has been around for several years, but it has not yet become a mainstream treatment option in general practice. However, as more studies are published demonstrating its effectiveness, we can expect to see this treatment grow in popularity.

More Effective Treatment Options

New treatment techniques will continue to be developed to provide more effective ways to treat gum disease and help patients maintain healthy gums and teeth for life. The goal is to eliminate the need for surgery and provide non-invasive methods that allow patients to avoid traditional surgical procedures such as scaling and root planing (deep cleaning).

Improved Materials

Recent advances in ceramics engineering have revolutionized biocompatible materials in dental implants, bridges, and other dental restorative procedures. These new materials have improved strength, durability, and longevity, allowing more natural bone integration. This means that implants can last longer than ever before without breaking down or requiring replacement surgery.
