Impact of Fast Food on Gum Health

Quick meals are often high in fat, sugar, and calories. But eating fast food often can also negatively affect your gum health. Here is how.

It Increases Inflammation

Fast food is highly processed and contains inflammatory ingredients like refined carbs, trans fats, and omega-6 fatty acids. Chronic inflammation damages tissues and bones that support teeth. Frequent fast food eaters often have higher inflammatory markers. This inflammation makes gums more likely to get bacterial infections that can lead to serious gum disease.

The best way to minimize the impact of occasional fast food is to focus on incorporating plenty of fresh, whole foods into your diet. Lean proteins, fruits, vegetables, nuts, and yogurt support gum health. Drink mostly water instead of sugary sodas.
